IISc, Infosys Foundation put their weight together

Sign MoU for chasing away infectious diseases; Grant of Rs. 5 Crore devoted here

BANGALORE, INDIA: Infosys Foundation has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore, to enhance infrastructure and broaden research activities at the Centre for Infectious Diseases Research (CIDR) at the Institute. The grant of Rs. 5 crore will be used towards research, training and creating awareness about infectious diseases, benefiting 25 faculty members and 250 students at IISc, as explained.

This association also intends to facilitate an interdisciplinary approach, with a focus on research about infectious diseases, leading to the development of new drug targets, drug delivery systems and novel diagnostic tools.

As Sudha Murty, Chairperson of Infosys Foundation, adds, “With this MoU, Infosys Foundation aims to set milestones in the area of research of infectious diseases. We will focus on motivating researchers to perform cutting-edge research, as well as train them to raise awareness about infectious diseases.”

This could not be more well timed as the country is confronting a massive emergence of diseases like dengue, chikungunya, swine flu and malaria even as the struggle for developing a vaccine for dengue and chikungunya is still underway.

IISc is a public university for research and higher education in all science and engineering disciplines. Infosys Foundation is also supporting other healthcare interventions through Swami Vivekananda Integrated Rural Health Centre (SVIRHC), Sankara Netralaya and the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS).
